Puerto Aventuras is a private community 20 minutes south from Playa del Carmen. The resort hosts a five star hotel and numerous all inclusive four star hotels. For those who want more privacy there is the option to rent private villas and condos.
No visit to Mexico is complete without taking a scuba diving tour and going to Puerto Aventuras is no different. Pro Dive Mexico operate in the region and are regarded as one of the best. They provide great instruction to get you started and from there you can select from a number of dives such as swimming with whale sharks and turtles to explore the many cenotes Mexico has to offer.
If you prefer life above water why not try your hand at fishing. Capt. Rick's Sportfishing Centre is on hand to charter a boat out so you can indulge in a spot of deep sea fishing to see if you can catch tonight's dinner. It is a relaxing day spending it bobbing on the waves and you may even be in with a chance of catching a barracuda.
Back at the resort there are three beaches for you to choose from, however, each is its own slice of paradise so don't worry too much about which one you decide to visit. Temperatures can hit above 40 degrees in the height of summer so don't spend too long on the beach at midday and pack plenty of suncream.
If you want a little exercise take in a round on the 36 par jungle golf course built by Thomas Leman. You won't mind going in the rough when you are surrounded by the beautiful palm trees on this course.
The nightlife in Puerto Aventuras is quite varied as there are ten restaurants to choose from. For a beach side view you only have the option of the Mexican flavoured Xenote which opens daily at 7am. For a taste a little closer to home try one of the three Italians, Tiramisu, Sole Mio and the Italian Bakery located at the Marina. Richard's Steak House serves up good hearty American food whilst for a Mediterranean feast try the Mediteraneo. For anyone not covered by this choice there is also Cafe Ole, an international restaurant. If you are a sports fan Puerto Aventuras even have that covered with the Jone's Sports Bar.
Flights for Puerto Aventuras land at Cancun International Airport and from there it is an hour's drive south. Booking an airport transfer might be a good idea if you do not want to spend extra money on a taxi or extra time on the buses. These can range from $55 for two people which is very reasonable and you have the added benefit of being picked up right outside the airport. Taxis will take you to Puerto Aventuras but be prepared to pay almost double of what it will cost to book an airport transfer. ADO run a bus service although you will have to travel to Playa del Carmen and then take the shuttle from there, this is the cheapest option but be prepared to travel for two hours. Hiring a car is the best way to get around once there.Puerto Aventuras is an exciting and vibrant resort with lots going on that is waiting to be explored.
