The actual village of Whitehouse is a small fishing community about four kilometres away from the only major resort in the area. The area has a wide range of accommodation, from poor homes to lavish villas and the mainstay of the local community is the local fish market in Whitehouse. The fresh fish arrive here every morning after the night time fishing making the market a busy place during the early hours. North of Whitehouse you will get a true glimpse of local life. The beaches around Whitehouse are the usual Caribbean collection of pristine white sand and clear turquoise waters, backed by lush green vegetation.
The area of Whitehouse is nowadays dominated by the Sandals all inclusive Resort. This luxurious establishment, part of the world renowned Sandals chain, lets guests see a different side of Jamaica being in a more undeveloped area, whilst enjoying all the lavish surroundings of a classy resort. Set in five hundred acres of preserved natural habitat the resort is made up of three "European" style villages, Dutch, Italian and French. Higher range suites have butler service and there are no less than fifteen room and suite options to chose. Each one has views of the two mile long beach and for dining the option of seven restaurants mean that you are unlikely to get tired of the menu.
Entertainment here takes on a variety of faces from piano suites to beach bonfires, there is even a nightclub for party lovers. Most of the restaurants have sea views and some are in a beach side setting so dining is always a pleasurable experience. By day the resort offers a range of water sports from scuba diving to kayaking, or for those not keen on the water there are tennis courts and beach volleyball. The resort has three pools to choose from and two whirlpools all situated on the oceanfront. When you have tired of lying in the sun treat yourself at the Red Lane Spa.
The hotel offers a number of tours to discover the rest of Jamaica, if you can tear yourself away from all that this high class resort has to offer. If you can then a trip to Dunns River Falls is highly recommended. Wind your way up six hundred foot of waterfall and soak in the clear water as you take in the unspoiled beauty of the Ocho Rios, or have a once in a lifetime experience and swim with the dolphins at the Dolphin Encounter. Part of a marine park you can also watch sharks in a show and interact with stingrays.
Of course all Sandals resorts are for couples only and they specialise in weddings, honeymoons and renewals of vows; and what better destination for a romantic holiday than this corner of a Caribbean Island. Guests are treated to five star service and the holiday can be as quiet or as action filled as you wish. Alternatively, you can just be the first to make footprints in the sand every morning before spending a day of luxury at the Whitehouse resort.
