Bayahibe Holidays

The popular town of Bayahibe is found on the south east coast of the Dominican Republic, just 10 miles east of the city of La Romana. Famous for its beautiful Caribbean coastline, Bayahibe is a haven for fun both above and below the waves.

Things to do

Scuba diving

The main attraction in the Bayahibe area is offshore and under the waves! Take time out, put on your wetsuit, mask and tank and take a look at some of the amazing tropical fish and plant life local to the area. With over 20 official dive sites located off the coast of Bayahibe you are spoilt for choice. There is something for everyone, from easy dives for beginners to wreck dives for those with more experience. On the main beach there are over 10 dive shops, all of which rent or sell equipment and offer accompanied dive expeditions to the dive sites. Accredited courses are available for beginners or improvers or just try a one day taster dive.

Bayahibe's main beach is found less than a mile out of the city centre. For more choice, travel further afield to the Dominicus Beach just three miles away or take one of the frequent ferry boats to Saona Island with its range of beautiful beaches.

Boat trips

If you want to see further afield, why not try one of the many boat trips to neighbouring beaches or one of the nearby islands. Regular boat trips are available to Catalina, Saona and Catalinita Islands. Choose from an easy cruise or a fast catamaran to your location and once there enjoy a buffet lunch of all you can eat and drink with entertainment.

If you are feeling a bit more active why not try your hand at some of the activities available on or in the water? Activities available locally include windsurfing, snorkelling and sailing. Instruction or just gear hire if you have sufficient experience are available for all activities. You can also hire a canoe or pedalo and take to the water on your own or in a group.

There really is something for everyone in Bayahibe! All of the local hotels and resorts have their own restaurants and night time entertainment and there are also a range of restaurants bars and nightclubs in the town itself. Most of the hotels feature a different show or act every night of the week, so there is plenty of choice! Choose from a romantic meal for two by the beach or follow the sounds of music and hit the dance floor.

Getting around

Bayahibe's closest airport is the La Romana International Airport, about 20km away. The Punta Cana International Airport is also only a few hours away. Both airports are easily accessible from Bayahibe by taxi, bus or car.

Local transport

Local taxis or "guaguas" are readily available and provide an easy and rapid way to get around the Bayahibe region. If you want to venture further inland the roads can be less well built and off road cars are advisable. Organised trips are available. The easiest way to visit the neighbouring beaches or islands is to jump on one of the many boat trips.
