Turgutreis is the second largest resort on the Bodrum Peninsula in Turkey. A cosmopolitan resort yet retaining a traditional feel, Turgutreis lies on the Aegean coast and is surrounded by mountains and sea. Turgutreis is a great place in which to relax on the beach or to soak up the atmosphere in the main square from a traditional bar or café.
Although the beaches at Turgutreis are fantastic for sunbathing, the sea in this area has dangerous currents so is not suitable for children. Despite this, the resort is extremely popular with families and couples.

Locals in Turgutreis are renowned for being friendly and welcoming and the streets are clean with plenty of seats and shade on offer.
The beaches around Turgutreis are popular with international surfers thanks to the excellent waves created by the strong winds. Facilities are good, with several bars and cafés selling meals and snacks. The sea in this area has strong currents so is not suitable for children or anyone who is not a strong swimmer.
Turgutreis is a haven for shoppers. In addition to the Saturday market selling food, clothing, pottery and handicrafts, there are also several large supermarkets and a covered bazaar. Best buys in Turgutreis include delicious fruit from the nearby mountains as well as figs, olives and sun dried tomatoes. If you are shopping for souvenirs, look out for traditional Bodrum gourd lamps and traditional Turkish embroidery.
Turgutreis is surrounded by mountains and hills which offer plenty of opportunities for exploring if you hire a car during your stay. Stop off for something to eat or drink at a village and sample the local fruit or other traditional produce such as olives and nuts.
As Turgutreis is positioned on the very end of the Bodrum Peninsula, the town offers spectacular views of the Aegean and some of the best sunsets to be had anywhere in Turkey.
Just a few miles outside the town lie the ruins of a walled city built by the Myndos civilisation. The pretty resort of Kadikalesi is just two miles away, where you can visit a Roman church and Hellenic castle.
If you decide not to hire a car, Turgutreis has excellent bus connections to other towns including Bodrum city.

Head to Bar Street if you want to be in the thick of the action, or visit any of the bars dotted around town for a more relaxed evening. If you're looking for big clubs that open all night, head to Bodrum City which is 11 miles away and an easy taxi ride.
