Torba Holidays

Torba is a pretty coastal village on the Bodrum Peninsula in Turkey. With a typically Turkish feel and relaxing atmosphere, Torba is ideal for a quiet break when you want to get away from it all. Surrounded by mountains, the tranquil village has a small harbour and pebble beach which is a popular swimming spot.

Situated just 7km away from the bustling city of Bodrum, Torba is also a great base from which to explore the Bodrum peninsula and surrounding areas.

Transfer time

The transfer time from Bodrum airport is approximately 50 minutes.

Weather

Torba is a sun seeker's dream with sunshine almost guaranteed from May to October. The peak summer months of July and August can be very hot with temperatures of over 30 degrees C most days, although a light breeze near the sea can help to keep you cool. Rainfall is uncommon during the summer months and Torba enjoys over 10 hours of sunshine a day throughout the holiday season.

The town

Torba is a picture-postcard fishing village with a peaceful, traditionally Turkish atmosphere. Situated on a bay on the north of the Bodrum Peninsula, the village and surrounding beaches are backed by richly scented woods and hills. The small pebble beaches with crystal clear waters make Torba popular with visitors from all along the coast.

There are a few traditional restaurants from which to choose in Torba, offering fresh fish and Turkish dishes, whilst for a wider choice of restaurants and nightlife, the city of Bodrum is just 7km away.

Beaches

Backed by pine and olive trees, the white pebble beach at Torba is small but extremely pretty. The crystal clear waters make it easy to spot fish swimming by, whilst diving offers the chance to see marine life including octopus, eels and even tuna. The sea is generally calm and safe for swimming, making Torba an ideal destination for visitors of all ages.

Shopping

Visitors to Torba will find everything they need for their stay in the selection of local shops. There are also a few stalls dotted around the village offering handicrafts and souvenirs.

For a wider choice of shops and goods, head to the shopping mecca of Bodrum City. There you´ll find bustling markets and bazaars where haggling is all part of the fun.

Around and about

With the busy resort centre of Bodrum just 7km away, Torba offers the best of both worlds. Spend a few days recharging your batteries in Torba before heading to the hustle and bustle of Bodrum – fantastic for shopping or dancing the night away at an all night club. Getting to Bodrum is easy with several bus services running through the day. Taxis are also inexpensive and plentiful.

The hills around Torba are covered in wild flowers and herbs, offering a treat for the senses if you decide to escape to the mountains. Hire a car or even a bike to discover the many historic villages dotted around the area, including the ruins of a Byzantine monastery to the east of the bay.

Ferries leave from Torba harbour to locations along the Bodrum Peninsula including the town of Altinkum with its soft white sand beaches and historic Roman temple.

Things to see and do

Being just a short bus or taxi ride away, a visit to the city of Bodrum is a must during your stay. Whether you fancy whiling away a few hours looking around the historic Castle of St Peter or spending some money in the bustling bazaars, Bodrum is a captivating place where East meets West.

Bodrum old town is full of interesting shops selling hand made good and souvenirs, whilst at night it comes to life with bars and clubs that open until the early (or late!) hours.

If you like to mix culture with shopping and sampling the nightlife while on holiday, take a ferry from Torba harbour to Altinkum to explore the archaeological site of Ephesus. Considered one of the best "outdoor museums" in Turkey or indeed the world, Ephesus is regarded the best preserved Roman city in the Mediterranean and a must for anyone interested in history.

Nightlife

As you would expect from a small village, nightlife in Torba is very relaxed. Some of the large, modern hotels in the area offer entertainment for visitors during the summer months, whilst for a big night out, Bodrum is only 7km away.

Eating out

The restaurants at Torba are popular with locals and tourists alike, with visitors coming from miles around to enjoy the fresh fish and to soak up the views. Restaurants in Torba are mainly small, family-run affairs offering traditional Turkish cuisine and mezze. Several offer the chance to dine outside and enjoy the cool breeze whilst savouring a home made meal.

If you fancy a change of pace, head to Bodrum for a wider choice of restaurants and international cuisine.
