Icmeler is a popular beach town located in the south west of Turkey's Mediterranean coastal area. Icmeler is a delightful resort situated in a bay with golden sandy beaches which are surrounded by mountains.
The nearest airport to Icmeler is Dalaman International Airport and most of the major airlines operate flights to this destination from the UK including Thomas Cook, easyJet and Turkish Airlines. The actual length of flying times depends on which UK airport you are departing from but flights generally take between four and five hours. UK visitors to Turkey must hold a UK passport valid for at least three months prior to their arrival in this amazing country. Transfer to the resort from Dalaman International Airport takes approximately just over an hour and as there are taxis and coaches for hire in abundance outside the arrival building, transfer is quite straight forward. Package holidaymakers will be met and accompanied by a representative from their tour company on their coach journey to their accommodation in Icmeler.
Icmeler boasts a variety of accommodation ranging from luxurious hotels to pensions and the self catering visitor will find an array of villas and apartments to rent.
The beach at Icmeler is a golden sandy one and is included in the National Park of Beaches along with Aydinlik, Kavalki and Karasu Bays. Icmeler beach is extremely well maintained and is cleaned on a daily basis. The holidaymaker seeking rest and relaxation can spend their time crashed out on one of the many sun beds, taking an occasional dip in the clear blue water of the Mediterranean Sea, however, there are lots of watersports available here for the adventurous amongst you. There are speed boat rides, water skiing, jet skis, banana boats and scuba diving is popular here and it is possible to book lessons for the complete beginner.
The location of Icmeler makes it an ideal place to take a Horse Safari through the pine clad mountain sides with their majestic scenery and there are many boat trips on offer for tourists including the famous Turkish Gulet Cruise Boats. There are also many historical sites reasonably close to Icmeler, one of which is the site of the Lycian Tombs which are built into the mountain side at Dalyan. The deserted village of Kayakoy lies eerily empty following the departure of the Greek inhabitants after the war and a dolmus or taxi will soon get you here.
The dolmus is the Turkish mini bus which runs on a daily basis on a variety of routes and is a convenient way to travel around the local area. If you wish to venture further afield, it is possible to negotiate a fare with the local taxi drivers whose knowledge of the historical sites and their history are well known.
There is a huge selection of both bars and restaurants in Icmeler serving a variety of food ranging from traditional Turkish delights to steaks, chicken and seafood dishes as well as Chinese fare. The local bars are also very inviting and offer the holidaymaker a choice of cocktails and refreshing drinks. The nightlife in Icmeler is lively and when the sun goes down, the lights and music in the bars create a cheery atmosphere, however, there is only one nightclub here and serious partygoers wishing to dance until dawn need to visit the nearby town of Marmaris which is some eight kilometres from Icmeler.
The shopping in Icmeler is good with several shopping malls and there are an array of boutiques selling designer wear, souvenir shops, leather goods galore and jewellery outlets. Gold jewellery in Turkey is extremely good value and you will be amazed at the intricate and attractive designs which are available. The locals of Icmeler hold a market each Wednesday where it is possible to purchase locally made products such as honey and of course Turkish carpets.
The art of haggling is practised in many areas of Turkey and this can be quite entertaining not just for the buyers, shopkeepers and stall holders but also for any onlookers. There are some characters running shops and market stalls throughout Turkey and shopping is great fun. Marmaris boasts several bazaars and markets as well as lots of shops selling everything you can think of and shopaholics will feel as if they have arrived in shoppers' paradise if they visit this busy town.
Icmeler is a pretty resort town which has superb beaches, some scenic countryside and local people who provide a really warm welcome to holidaymakers who return year after year.
