Mexico is quickly becoming a favourite of the international traveller as it boasts a rich pedigree of history, weather, landscapes and entertainment - the best of which is the Riviera Maya. It is a beautiful coastal hotspot situated along Highway 307 adjacent to the Caribbean Sea in the Quintana Roo state of Mexico. Each year thousands of holidaymakers journey there and it is easy to see why.
There is an unbelievable selection of all manner of activities to do whilst on holiday in Riviera Maya. No trip to Mexico would be complete without taking in the magical buildings and temples of the ancient Mayan culture that is long since past. Edventure Tours run an excellent jungle tour to the majestic ocean side ruins at Tulum as well as delving deeper into the hidden world of Mexico's rainforests.
Water activities play a large role in the entertainment on offer so take your chance to explore the beautiful Caribbean Sea in a number of ways. There are many great diving tours, Scubatony Cozumel run personalised small group dives in the crystal clear water around the island of Cozumel. If diving is a step too far for you, see the underwater world through the safety of your own snorkel. For any families travelling with small children, this safe and enjoyable activity is a great way to see the magical underwater life that the region has to offer. For all the hunter gathers amongst us try your hand at deep sea fishing and see if you can catch your own lunch. There are a number of companies around the region who run fishing expeditions so shop around.
There are some great ways to spend an evening in Riviera Maya. For those with a sweet tooth sample real chocolate the Maya way from Ah Cacao Chocolate Cafe. Take your pick from brownies, bars, desserts, beans, iced mochas, latte art and much more!
For your evening meal look up the Ajua Maya, a restaurant serving a mix of tradition Mexican entertainment and international cuisine. The lobsters are caught fresh each day so enjoy one whilst taking in the splendid live Latin jazz on offer at Ajua Maya.
Fun for the whole family can be found in Playa del Carmen at the Coco Bongo. The club serves up a great show featuring dancers, singers, actors and much more. If you book early you can also enjoy eating your evening meal whilst watching the show.
The easiest way to get there is to fly to Cancun International Airport which serves all the major flights into the country. A second option is to fly to the Cozumel Airport located further south, although this does not service all countries. If you plan to get around look into hiring a car or jeep for the duration of your stay as it will be much more cost effective than taking taxis and buses all holiday. The region does boast good transport - private cabs are plenty and are cheap in the major cities. ADO also runs a regular bus service between the major towns such as Playa del Carmen, Tulum and Cancun that departs every hour.
Riviera Maya is a fantastic region for any holiday maker so check it out today. You won't be disappointed.
