Puerto Juarez is a town 2km outside of Cancun. It offers a quiet and relaxing atmosphere situated on the Caribbean coast but is close enough to Cancun to satisfy even the most adventurous of holiday maker. Puerto Juarez is a sleepy town with a beautiful beach front and most of the activities are down the road in Cancun. Taxis are relatively inexpensive but if you are planning to go back and forth then hiring a car or scooter is a must.
From Cancun there is a wealth of adventure to be had. The Hummer Jungle Tour is a brilliant day out. Drive yourself through the Mexican jungle and explore ancient Mayan ruins, visit an interactive zoo where you will be able to feed and hold many of the species including spider monkeys, deer, spiders and even crocodiles before taking lunch under the jungle canopy with the local iguanas. Cool off in the afternoon by taking a swim in the jungle cenotes before heading back by driving up the Mayan Riviera.
If the Mexican heat is getting to you check out the Mayan Aqua Dive, a company who offer top notch dives into wrecks, caverns, underground caves and the chance to meet the local inhabitant, the whale shark. The dives are highly recommended and the customer service is second to none.
If you are eating out in Puerto Juarez then you must head to Mandinga, one of the best seafood restaurants in the town. On the menu is a range of lobster, shrimp and pretty much anything else that can be caught. Prices are great and much of the food is caught daily so you are guaranteed it is fresh. For a night out in Cancun there are a number of places not to be missed. Coco Bongo is a must see, a cross between Cirque de Soleil, a concert and a stand up gig. It mixes dancers, singers, actors, impersonators, comedians and much more into an evening's entertainment for the whole family. Prices are inclusive of drinks and it is recommended that you haggle as with larger groups it is possible to reduce the price.
For tourists looking for some Mexican clubbing the Dady O nightclub is regarded as one of the finest in Cancun. The best DJs in town all come to play here and it has a magical atmosphere thanks to its state of the art laser show each evening. The music mainly caters to the European dance crowd and there is a table service available although this does cost extra.
Puerto Juarez is easy to get to as it is only 2km outside Cancun. Flights land at Cancun International Airport and from there it is best to just get a taxi rather than wait for a bus as the trip is so short. Taxi prices are pretty inexpensive but if you are planning to spend a lot of time in Cancun then it is advisable to rent a car or scooter as Cancun is a large city. This will also allow you to explore some of the Mayan ruins further south without having to book onto a tour.
Puerto Juarez is a great way to enjoy the hustle and bustle of Cancun whilst retaining the peace and quiet of the beautiful beaches the small town has to offer.
