Playacar Holidays

Playacar is an upscale gated community of developments in the Playa del Carmen area of Mexico, just south of Quintana Roo. The resort compound contains dozens of private condos, all-inclusive hotels and plenty of amenities.

The resort is divided into two sections; phase one located next to the oceanfront comprising of secluded beaches and private villas whilst phase two offers hotels and private villas located around an 18 hole golf course designed by the famous Robert von Hagge.

The main activities on offer at the resort comprise of relaxing on the golf course, lounging in the resort bars, or exploring the numerous beautiful beaches that stretch along the coastline. The resort's park even offers up Mayan ruins that are well worth a look. If you want to explore outside the confines of the gates Playa del Carmen is only a four minute taxi ride away.

From Playa del Carmen there is a huge range of great activities to take in. Reef Quest Divers is located in the world famous Parrot Beach Club and provides expert scuba diving instruction out in the beautiful Mexican Gulf. If swimming isn't your thing then Mexico Blue Dream offer a number of different boat trips as well as diving and snorkelling. For a taste of Mexican history it is well advised to take in the Hummer Jungle Tour, a self drive tour which will see you drive into the jungle to visit and learn about the best ancient Mayan ruins in the area, visit an interactive zoo allowing you to pet and feed the animals and drive up the beautiful Mayan Riviera beach.

Playa del Carmen offers up some tantalising nightlife. Avenida 5th (5th Avenue) is a vibrant street lined with all kinds of restaurants, arts and craft galleries, cafes and bars and nightclubs for your evening entertainment. Coco Bongo show is a must see for any first time visitor. The club offers a great night's entertainment starting at 11pm with a Cirque de Solei meets stage show with acrobats, dancers, actors, DJs and much more.

Drinks are all inclusive of the door charge which can be negotiated down but it does get busy and hot inside so make sure you don't overdress. For straight ahead bars, places worth a look include Tequila Town the self proclaimed best place to drink tequila in Mexico, The Blue Parrot complete with beach hammocks and the Cuban bar La Casa del Habano complete with a large choice of Cuban cigars and fresh fruit mojitos.

Taxis are inexpensive and it only takes four minutes from Playacar to Playa del Carmen so they offer a perfect option if you are happy with the entertainment in the area. If you are looking to do some exploring it is recommended to hire a car as public transport is poor. Cancun is 40km away offering a great day trip and there are a number of small Mexican towns dotted around the local area. Going inland you will come across a number of Mayan sites that are a great taste of authentic Mexico.
