Playa Maroma Holidays in Mexico

Playa Maroma is another resort located on the Mayan Riviera of Mexico's east coast. It is about equal distance (about 30 minutes) from Cancun and Playa del Carmen so it is ideally located to explore further afield. Travel magazine recently rated Playa Maroma as the finest beach in the world.

Situated on the Caribbean Coast it is a fact that Playa Maroma is home to some fantastic beaches that will not disappoint but if you want a bit more get up and go there are a range of things to do and see whilst there. Tour group Alltournative offer a range of expeditions to explore the hidden past of Mexico. One particular tour they offer is the day long jungle expedition. Setting off early you are driven into Mexico's lush jungle to explore the ancient world of the Mayans, climbing a pyramid, swimming in the cenotes, repelling and zip lining from the tree top canopy and eating lunch with genuine Mayan people.

Another worthy mention is Reef Quest Divers situated in Playa del Carmen. An excellent dive shop fully PADI qualified they offer a range of different dives to suit all tastes. You can choose from snorkelling, cenote diving, deep sea fishing, Cozumel diving and exploring the underwater world of the Whale Sharks. Their shop is located in the famous Blue Parrot Beach Club on the Playa del Carmen Beach.

The resort has an array of dining options included in the price. The a la carte option includes a Mexican, Italian and American style steakhouse to choose from, as well as the daily buffet at the hotel's main restaurant Pajarito. In addition there are other restaurants to eat in such as Tortuga Grill, situated closer to the beach serving snacks and small meals. This place is a good option for lunch. Otonniel also serves delicious food and hosts a splendid atmosphere night after night. For after dinner entertainment if you plan on staying on the resort there is an evening show. It will not satisfy anyone looking for memorable nights but is more than enough for any family.

It is unlikely you will land anywhere else but Cancun International Airport and from there you are about 30 minutes away from the resort. Many package deals include a transfer bus. If you take this option it will take just under an hour to reach Playa Maroma. Another option is to rent a car. The added benefit of this is that you will have freedom from the resort and with Cancun and Playa del Carmen located only 30 minutes in each direction this is recommended for anyone who wants to make the most of their holiday time. Cars can be rented for as little as $50 a day for a four seat saloon and can be arranged to be picked up from the airport. Getting around Playa Maroma is not really a problem as it is so small everything is walkable. ADO run a bus service up and down Highway 307 once an hour but this stops between 3 and 7pm so be aware of this if you are planning a trip out.

As with so many places in Mexico Playa Maroma is a unique piece of Caribbean beauty situated on an excellent beach.
