The Croatian City of Split is in the Central Dalmatia area of Croatia on the Adriatic coast. Originally built for the retired Roman Emperor Diocletian where he had a palace built. The centre of Split is interesting where built between the Roman walls of the Palace is Splits gothic and renaissance buildings which makes a perfect match.
It is probably the most preserved Roman place in general outside Italy. Visit the Peristil square or Jupiters temple, walk along the main promenade Riva and take a scenic break for natural stress relief up the hill of Marjan. To go and relax on the beach of Bavica where the vast majority of people from Split go is ok, but you could choose to go further north to the more remote beaches near the pine forests where they are situated between. With all the cafes and bars situated around the city you wont be short of somewhere for refreshment and local delicacies
