Valley Church Bay is an idyllic picture postcard bay just south of Jolly Beach. White sands contrast with the crystal blue waters of Lignum Vitae Bay. You will never struggle for space on this stretch of white sand where the warm waters are completely calm, allowing you to float quietly as the local fishing boats drift by. Some of the most beautifully coloured shells on the island can be found on this shore. Valley Church Bay is some eight miles from St John's and is a complete haven of tranquility, being secluded and ideal for those who just want to relax and worship the sun.
So that you don't need to break the tranquility the beach has its own bar and restaurant, The Nest. Open daily Monday to Friday from eleven am until sunset, you can end your perfect day on the beach watching the sun go down over a drink. Dinner can be had by reservation only. The Nest also caters for special parties and even weddings. There can be few more perfect wedding destinations than Valley Church Beach! Saturday evenings are party time at The Nest, when the weekly BBQ Beach party takes place. For a perfect day in paradise spend the day idling on the white sand then stay on the beach and party through the sunset.
Transfers from St Johns will take about fifteen to twenty minutes, so if you are travelling independently and not as part of an island tour, make sure you have your taxi booked to come back and get you. There's a short walk from the main road to the beach, it was once a hard trail through brush land but it has been made far more user friendly due to the increasing number of visitors.
This isn't a tourist beach, its usual inhabitants are locals looking for somewhere to swim and relax. So if you are looking for the usual run of beachside attractions you will not find them here. There are the occasional jet skis for hire, but these have normally been brought in from another part of the island, so there's no guarantee that they will be there. Valley Church Beach is so quiet it could almost be considered your own private beach. If you are looking for banana boat rides and paragliding then this isn't the place for you, but if you want to relax in tranquil surroundings and watch the Caribbean drift by then this is the place for you.
Antigua is an island of great cultural history and colonial elegance but it is still an island in the Caribbean and this is everyone's idea of the perfect Caribbean beach. So after you have taken in the history of Nelson's Dockyard and visited the shops and bustling restaurants of English Harbour and St Johns, make your way to Valley Church Bay, sit back, unwind and enjoy the Caribbean as it should be. White sand, blue sea and the warm breezes to help you watch the world go by.
