Playa Bavaro Holidays

The Dominican Republic has at its far eastern shores, the beautiful resort of Playa Bavaro. With some of the most exquisite beaches in the world this popular town attracts lots of visitors who soak up the warm sunny weather and enjoy all that this stunning white sandy coastline has to offer. Far out in the sea a reef forms a protective barrier, making the beach a safe, shallow and inviting playground.

This same reef also provides a wonderful opportunity for some excellent diving to see unique multi-coloured plants and animals in their natural environment. The town itself is a colourful collection of hotels, bars and restaurants, with the main focus being the spectacular coastal landscape. There are loads of little shops to buy local handicrafts and souvenirs from. Beach-front shopping is a delight with little stalls nestled under the swaying palms although you may need to be firm at declining offers from stallholders.

There's plenty to keep you occupied in Playa Bavaro. If the 25 miles of inviting sands don't entice you to stretch out and relax all day, then catamarans, sailboards, kayaks and jet skis can all be hired so you can ride the crystal clear Caribbean Sea. Lessons are available if it's your first time trying the pleasures of these water sports. The many resort hotels offer lots of extra activities such as tennis, golf, spas and basketball. You might like to try lessons in meringue and salsa so you can strut your stuff on the dance floor at night.

Excursions from this area are plentiful; perhaps try a festival boat where you can swim with rays and nurse sharks in a safe enclosed area of the sea, then afterwards party with the pulsating and colourful dance show. How about just soaking up the sun, having a massage on the beach whilst listening to the waves lap the shore. It's possible to have a flavour of the 'real' Dominican Republic by taking a tour into the jungle and visiting sugar cane plantations, cigar makers and local farmers – who welcome you into their homes and show you how they live.

Playa Bavaro is conveniently situated just 20 km away from Punta Cana International Airport. Many hotels offer a courtesy bus or transfer car to take you directly from the airport to the resort. Bicycle hire is a great way of travelling round the resort and can be organized from most hotels. There is even a little train than travels between many of the larger hotels and the beach.

There is delicious cuisine from all around the globe to be found in the multitude of eateries around Playa Bavaro, but it goes without saying that the seafood is amazing. Nightlife is specified as to what the hotels have to offer, but there is loads of choice; children's parties, discos, casinos, shows and dancing through the night. With such contrasts as the delicious peace and tranquility of this stunning landscape and the variety of exciting entertainment and activities on offer, it's easy to see why Playa Bavaro has become such a sought after destination.
