Playa Arena Gorda beach is situated on the eastern most tip of the Dominican Republic in the Punta Cana area. This part of the world has become renowned for having some of the most beautiful beaches you can find. Lovely, lush palm groves stand sentinel along the edges of the pristine white sandy beach. The coastline is lovely and shallow, perfect for taking a stroll through the rolling waves, with natural pools that are safe to swim in. A gentle breeze from the Caribbean Sea refreshes you in this tropical paradise.
There is no doubt that the landscape is truly breathtaking and it's no surprise that its popularity for visitors has increased tremendously over the years. Many all-inclusive resort hotels have sprung up along this gorgeous beach providing a fantastic array of activities as well as modern airy accommodation. The architecture in the surrounding area is heavily influenced by the Mediterranean, with whitewashed villas and red pan tile roofs and the resort hotels have invested heavily into landscaping the neighbourhoods leading down to the beach with abundant tropical plants and palm trees.
The aforementioned resorts provide a huge range of entertainment if you can drag yourself away from the beach spas, tennis courts, climbing, 'ice' skating, volleyball and water polo are just a small selection. The surrounding area of the Playa Arena Gorda Beach boasts many top class golf courses too. Naturally there is a profusion of water sports to be enjoyed - diving, snorkelling, windsurfing, jet skiing, sailing are just a few. Many local vendors ply their trade around the Playa Arena Gorda area their brightly coloured stalls enticing you to browse.
Playa Arena Gorda is only 19 miles from Punta Cana International Airport (worth seeing in itself for its sloped thatched roof) and 40 miles to Higuey the nearest city. Many hotels offer a transfer service direct from the airport to the resort. If you fancy exploring the area there are plentiful economic buses called Gua-gua to take you around, however, as you can stop them anywhere along the roads (which is great) this can also mean a lot of stops and longer journey times. Alternatively taxis are available from the airport or the reception of any hotel. These are usually swift and comfortable but do ensure you agree a price before you travel. Renting a vehicle is easy but fairly expensive and you also face running the gauntlet on these particularly hectic roads.
There is an eclectic mix of restaurants around Playa Arena Gorda, serving everything from American, Italian and Mediterranean to local delicacies. Nightlife in Playa Arena Gorda mainly centres around the resort hotels whose profusion of bars, restaurants, casinos, discos and even theatres mean that you are spoiled for choice whether you are wanting to have a quiet night sipping a cocktail and watching the world go by, or dancing the night away.
Facing east, the beach at Playa Arena Gorda sees some spectacular sunrises; what better way to start the day strolling along the soft sands of this delightful beach watching the colours of day filtering through on this natural wonder.
