The Caribbean is the destination of choice for those wanting to relax in an island paradise and it doesn't get much more idyllic or exclusive than Aruba Island off the coast of Venezuela where perfect white beaches and unbelievably clear water can be found right around the coastline.
Although Aruba is only 19.6 miles long and six miles across at its widest point there is a surprising amount to do in such a relatively small place and the emphasis is definitely on indulgence.
If tranquillity is your top requirement, then Druif Beach is the perfect location for a stay on Aruba. It is a long oval shaped stretch of white sand stretching out towards the sea with low rise hotel apartments that are only a few steps away from the shoreline. For those not staying at the resort, it is a public beach and easily accessible by road and public transport.
Druif Beach has excellent swimming conditions and because of its location the sea is always calm and there is a variety of accommodation just off the beach. The Divi Village Golf and Beach Resort centres around a landscaped 9 hole golf course with training facilities for beginners and the Divi Dutch Village has direct access to Druif Beach down a beautiful garden path. Beach front apartments here are absolutely stunning and sophisticated resorts such as this are hard to beat, even in the Caribbean.
Aruba has more than its share of luxurious sandy retreats whether you just want to relax in the sun, indulge in some serious water sports or try out a spot of snorkelling. The beaches of Aruba are all quite different and some occasionally have strong under currents so it's best to take advice before you book your accommodation as some resorts are more suited to surfing rather than soaking up the sun.
Just along from Druif Beach is nearby downtown Oranjestad and its decadent shopping malls packed with designer goodies and all the luxury you would expect from a high class tourist town. Even the buildings are pristine and look fantastic with their brightly coloured Dutch style architecture and immaculate window displays in the Main Street shops.
At night the city comes alive with bars, clubs and more than ten casinos all illuminated in neon lights. Evening entertainment doesn't get much better than this and the choice of things to do is overwhelming. Live shows, the Bon Bini Festival and a whole host of music and dancing are all part of the regular weekly line up on Aruba.
There are international restaurants with menus prepared by world class chefs and many establishments offer a good selection of fine wines. You can be sure that the food is always fresh, particularly the fish and seafood which is brought in by the fishing boats each morning. Small bistros by the beach are perfect for a quiet dinner if the hustle and bustle of the city is not to your taste.
Druif Beach is the ultimate relaxing holiday getaway, but it is also an amazing location for a wedding and honeymoon. The romantic resort offers tailor made packages that range from a simple civil wedding to a large sunset ceremony with as many family and friends as you wish. Aruba really is the true definition of an island paradise.
