If your perfect holiday starts with crystal blue waters and shimmering white sands, Bavaro may just be the place for you. It boasts a stretch of picture postcard beach that has been described by visitors as a piece of heaven. The turquoise waters are crystal clear, offering the best conditions for swimmers and snorkelers alike. But if you love the beach yet want more out of your holiday than lazy sunning under a tropical sun with the waves lapping at your feet, Bavaro offers you a range of beach based activities to suit many tastes and pockets.
Firstly you can enjoy an adventure of a lifetime by swimming with the local dolphins. You don't even have to be a strong swimmer to participate. This is a safe and instructed experience but one which you are guaranteed to find truly memorable. There are also various round tours starting at Bavaro beach and offering you the easy way to see more of the island in a fun way. Some of the favourites are the beach buggy or dune buggy adventures offering a safari style adventure on either a half or full day basis.
Alternatively you could relax and enjoy the sights from one of the many cruisers that offer trips up and down the stunning coastline. Most of these incorporate lunch and a stop off for snorkelling so that you can see a wider variety of the beautiful marine life. But if you are someone who really loves the sea and its hidden treasures, there is also scuba diving available from beginners to experts, however, if you prefer to view from the surface, you can join one of the fishing charters and perhaps try your luck.
If you are in need of a break from the beach you need not look too far. There are several good local golf courses including the Punta Espada and the Punta Blanca. Previous visitors have rated both of these courses highly with some even saying that Punta Espada is the best courses they have ever played. Both courses offer a round at very affordable prices.
For the non golfers looking for a day off you need look no further than the shopping malls, gift shops and tempting bars boasting names as diverse as Captain Cook and Beach Bum. Take your pick, but if this still is not enough, there are excellent rail and travel links for you to design your own island exploration adventure.
In the evening if you are not too tired out from lazing in the sun or swimming with the dolphins there is lively night time entertainment to be had as well. There are bars and restaurants and for the more energetic amongst you, Bavaro offers discos and nightclubs to keep you going until sunrise.
You may be surprised after hearing all this to also learn that Bavaro still contains a small fishing village, which means you can acquire a flavour of its more sleepy past image, which is in stark contrast to the bubbly, vibrant beach and nightlife scene encountered by tourists today.
